Schedule/Results
March 3-
The young Kings, who will return four of five starters
next year, gave it a good shot at winning the Manchester Sectional only to
lose by just nine points 52-43 to Northfield which advances to next week's
regional with a 21-3 record. The Kings finished the season 11-12. Austin
Keisling, a sophomore, led the team with 22 points. With the game tied at
halftime and the Kings leading by two after three quarters, an upset was clearly
possible. A series of missed shots late in the fourth did not help the Kings
cause against the well coached and discipline Norseman. Once they got the lead
they ran the clock out by taking up to a minute to take one shot. The Kings
played tough but the Norseman pulled it together to take over the game in the fourth.
March 2- In its Feb. 11 regular-season game at Wabash, Lewis
Cass nearly lost a double-digit halftime lead before prevailing 68-58. This time
the Kings took a 15-point lead into halftime and
never looked back defeating the Wabash Apaches 71-54.
Cass (11-11) will try
to claim its first sectional crown since 2007 when it takes on Northfield (20-3)
at 7:30 tonight. Keegen Key led the Kings with 23 points and 10 rebounds. In a
well-balanced scoring attack, Justin Miller and Ryan Aldridge also reached
double figures with 10 points each. Sophomore Blake Hadley contributed nine. The
Kings finished the second quarter with an 18-4 run to lead 36-21. Austin
Keisling added all eight of his points in the quarter with two treys and a
couple free throws.
28/ Mar. 2/3 Sectionals vs. Southwood -After a sluggish first half the Kings found themselves down by 10. In the second half the Kings came out swinging starting off with an alley-oop dunk, and that was the game changer for the Kings. After shooting just 7 of 27 in the first half with 11 turnovers, the Kings played the second half shooting 14 of 26 and just 6 turnovers. The Kings were down, but they never gave up. They battled back from arguably the worst half of the year and got the win. The Kings played a lot better throughout the second half but especially in the third quarter. The Kings got their second alley-oop dunk of the quarter which brought the fans to their feet and Cass to within 38-35. With 40 seconds left in the quarter the Kings tied the game at 38 all on a three-point play by Keegen Key. The Kings continued their play starting the fourth quarter on a Jordan Miller 3-pointer to gain their first lead since the first quarter. Miller's 3 was followed by Key's fourth dunk of the night giving the Kings a 5-point lead. The Knights were not done as they got put backs and a long 3-pointer to fall late in the game to regain the lead. The Kings answered right back with back to back put backs by Key to give the Kings a 51-48 lead with a minute left. After a series of fouls Austin Keisling made a free throw to take a 52-50 lead with 23.8 seconds left. The Kings got the ball back looking to seal up the game when the in bounds pass was stolen by Southwood. The player made the lay up but Keisling stepped in front of him to take a big charge that nullified the basket. The Kings ran out the clock from there winning the first round of sectionals 56-55. Key led the Kings with 27 points, Ryan Alrdidge had 12 points and 6 rebounds, Keisling added 6 points, Miller had 5, and Drew Shepherd added 4 points and 6 rebounds. By David Watterson
